Re-Presenting Lost Topoi

DAVID ROE

Re-presenting Lost Topoi is an exploration into the manifestation of architecture articulated through psychological analysis, historical traces and cultural memory, in response to the challenge of fulfilling and transforming Lisbon’s waterfront by recovering the lost connection between the city and the Tagus.

The proposal is an attempt to expose the cultural value that is present within historical traces in Lisbon, and respond to a particular set of conditions that mask the Tagus waterfront while recovering experiences that are lost or unfulfilled like the pleasure garden that was destroyed in the earthquake of 1755. The resulting proposal presents a site journey that houses a campus – or institute – of discoveries, relating to new-world, mathematical and psychological discoveries. The proposal re-presents – through a stretched landscape – an origin point that is reached at the end of the journey
